Unbirth of Venus

I strongly feel that the role of photography and our ways of seeing contribute to our ways of thinking, doing and caring. I am interested in population growth and the impact on the environment, sustainability and well-being of future generations. I do not have children, I label myself as childfree because I never wanted to have them. I use photography to normalise the lifestyles of people who choose not to have children and dig deeper into the environmental aspect.

'Unbirth of Venus’ series embeds the childfree lifestyle led by Justine, captured during a dystopian  era. The birth-rate is in decline. Masses of people are stepping away from parenthood and by doing this are  causing much less of a global strain,  as they go about being mindful of the impact of their carbon footprint.

On a planet of 8 billion people, there is widespread pressure for people to reproduce. Not having children is a taboo subject,  raising questions of identity, social constructs, equality and the concept of what it is to be human.
